Nyamira MPs have urged their counterparts to conduct peaceful campaigns as the country prepares for the August general election.

The MPs Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Ben Momanyi (Borabu) said the country is facing a critical moment.

They spoke on Saturday in Nyamira town during several meetings with residents on peaceful campaigns.

“This is the time when every uttered word matters. We, therefore, must be very careful about what we say to our supporters because it will be of great impact,” Kemosi said.

He said some leaders have been careless on several occasions when allowed to address people, hence causing unnecessary tension among supporters.

Kemosi urged the politicians to preach peace and cohesion citing incitement from a section of leaders.

“All our leaders should not speak to cause violence. We should join hands and promote peace wherever we are,” Borabu said.

Momanyi urged the youths to be careful with politicians who are using them to cause violence in political gatherings and urged them to support visionary leaders.

“We are not telling you not to support politicians but we are only concerned about how the people you support are using you. We have seen several youths cause tension in political gatherings. Conduct peaceful campaigns for a peaceful country after the general elections,” he said.

On Sunday morning, 10 bikers started a journey from Nairobi to Kisumu to preach peace and cohesion in different counties in Nyanza ahead of the general election.

The group led by Robert Ndegwa said they were on a peace mission.

“We have been facing violence after elections, that is why we have decided to cycle to Kisumu to preach peace,” Ndegwa said in a phone interview on Sunday morning.
