Former Migori MP John Pesa has denied reports he has shelved his 2022 governor ambitions and instead he will vie for Migori senator.

Pesa, who worked in the tenth Parliament, said on Friday he was aware rumours have gained traction and claimed they were started by his rivals to distract voters.

“The propaganda has been started by my rivals who have panicked after my strong showing on the ground. I started campaigning to be the next governor in Migori for the past three years. My ambition is still on course,” Pesa said.

He said the rumours were created in favour of a candidate who feels the direct ODM ticket for the Migori governor seat should be handed to him for the general elections.

“I will vie on the ODM ticket and would wish the party to use members in picking nominees instead of the delegates' system. This way we will ensure all seats in Migori go to the Orange Party,” Pesa said.

He was speaking in Migori town when he attended a county prayer event organised by the International Gospel Ministries.

He said when he was a legislator, he initiated several development projects and did the same when he was the principal of Rapogi High School and Migori Teachers College. These achievements give him a better chance of winning the election.

“I believe Migori voters will make the best decision to ensure Migori as a devolved unit moves forward with a development agenda as we have huge untapped potential,” he said.

Other governor aspirants include Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko, Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo, Migori county secretary Christopher Rusana, Migori speaker Boaz Okoth and former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, among others.

Governor Okoth Obado will step aside for the 2022 general elections after his two terms end.
