A 12-year-old girl was rushed to Rachuonyo South Subcounty Hospital in Oyugis after she was found raped and abandoned in Kodera Forest.

The girl was found unconscious by Kenya Forest Service warders who were patrolling the forest.

She was found within Kadel Kamidigo area on Friday.

The girl was weak and could neither talk nor walk.

Area assistant chief Edward Ogelo said the girl had injuries around her genitals, suggesting she was likely raped.

The administrator said the girl might have stayed in the forest for more than three days after being defiled.

“The girl’s genitals had serious injuries which mean she was raped before being abandoned in the forest,” Ogelo said.

he said they liaised with police who provided a vehicle for taking her to hospital.

The girl’s identity is yet to be established.

“We’re waiting for the girl to gain consciousness so we can ask her name and their home. The incident seemed to have occurred three days back,” the assistant chief said.

West Kasipul MCA Mola Ochola condemned the heinous act and urged police to expedite investigations into the matter.

Ochola demanded that those suspected to have abused the girl be arrested and prosecuted. Parents were also urged to avoid sending their children to risky places.

“Nobody knows the child as we speak but she might have been kidnapped from somewhere else and abandoned here. Let parents monitor the movements of their children and avoid sending them to risky places,” Ochola said.

He urged parents whose daughters have gone missing to go to the hospital and check if the rescued girl is their child.
