- Governor Amos Nyaribo said the park will help farmers who will now benefit from value addition to their agricultural produce.
- Trade Executive Stephen Onwong’a urged residents to support the project.
A feasibility study on the upcoming agro-industrial park in Nyamira’s Sironga area is now complete awaiting the project to kick off.
County government officials led by Finance executive Emily Ongaga, chief officer Dominic Barare, Lands and physical planning executive Samuel Maiko, chief officer Josephat Gori, Environment chief officer Ombogo Marwanga among others received a delegation from the Development Bank of Africa on Monday in the final stages of the study.
The Sh70 billion integrated industrial park will be coming up soon after the feasibility study was finalised by officials from national government and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation.
Governor Amos Nyaribo said the park will help farmers who will now benefit from value addition to their agricultural produce.
“We are ready for this project and are optimistic that it will go a long way in boosting agricultural activities in our county and beyond. Being the first industrial park in our region, it will create an impact beyond our borders and put Nyamira on top of the region,” Nyaribo said in a statement.
The governor further noted that resources have been allocated, and that the title deed for the 265-hectare land is ready, adding that allocations will be set aside in the budget for the same and a committee has been established to follow up on the progress of the project at the county level.
Trade executive Stephen Onwong’a urged residents to support the project saying it will boost value addition to their farm produce and also create job opportunities among the youths.
“This is a bold step towards value addition to our produce, the same will go a step further in creating jobs when the industrial park comes up,” Onwong’a told journalists.
In a statement earlier, Jane Mugambi, who represented the office of Interior and Coordination of National government, said the national government through the office of the Interior CS is committed to the project.
“The national government has given this project a priority having established that Nyamira is an agricultural county. The government will ensure the project is complete so that it makes an impact on agricultural activities in this region. The Interior CS Fred Matiang’i will be following up on the progress of the project,” he said.
All projects in Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties will be reported directly to the President through the President Delivery Unit.
