Kisii KMTC staffers to lead Covid-19 sensitisation

Team will work with the Health department to reach residents in remote areas

In Summary

• The team will educate residents in remote areas on the importance of observing the Ministry of Health directives to contain the coronavirus.

• Health county executive Sarah Omache said that team will split into groups to move across the county.

Staff of the Kenya Medical Training College in Kisii will lead a two-week sensitisation programme for Covid-19 control.

The team will educate residents in remote areas on the importance of observing the Ministry of Health directives to contain the coronavirus.

Health executive Sarah Omache said the team will split into groups to move across the county.

She said the team will work with her department to ensure that the programme reaches its goals.

“I want to thank the management of KMTC Kisii branch for choosing to sensitise people about the dangers of the coronavirus pandemic. This is indeed crucial because our people need to be told the truth,” Omache said.

She said that some residents, especially the old, are disadvantaged because they are unable to access information about the disease. Efforts by the institution will give them a better understanding of the disease, she said.

“Social distancing in remote areas is a big challenge so the sensitisation programme has come at the right time when cases keep surging in the country,” Omache said.

The county executive said the administration has put measures in place to combat an outbreak.

“Our emergency isolation centre at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital to cater for any coronavirus case is ready,” Omache said.

The multi-agency emergency response committee co-chaired by Governor James Ongwae and county commissioner Stephen Kiharu is keeping a close watch in case of an outbreak.

“The spread of the virus is each day becoming a threat because it has not only put Kenya in a health crisis but the entire world,” she said.

Omache urged residents to always wear face masks in public places or offices for their safety.

The government is combating the disease, not punishing anybody with the stringent guidelines, she said.
