The war on corruption is targeting individual suspects and not their communities, Karachuonyo MP Adipo Okuome has said.

Okuome, who was speaking in Kendu Bay town on Sunday, asked leaders not to politicise the war on graft as only individuals who had stolen public funds are targeted.

He told off leaders now accusing investigators of targeting their people and a particular community.

“The agencies in the fight against corruption are only committed to ensuring projects are completed for members of the public to benefit,” the MP said.

Okuome spoke as Rift Valley lawmakers accused DCI boss George Kinoti of targeting the Kalenjin community.

The legislators claimed the investigation into the loss of funds in the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams is aimed at frustrating Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

Investigators want to know how Sh21 billion for the projects was irregularly paid. Ruto says only Sh7 billion might have been lost.

Representatives of 107 firms have been summoned to record statements on their role in the projects. The DCI, according to Ruto, is conducting its duties unprofessionally.

“Let us not lie to one another that money has been stolen when there is a lot of lies to  tarnish President Uhuru Kenyatta's legacy and Jubilee's performance record,” Ruto said two weeks ago.

But Okuome asked the DP and his allies to let the DCI do its work. “Whoever is found culpable will solely face the consequences as an individual and not on behalf of his/her community,” he said.

The MP spoke during Nyanza North region's athletics tournament at Kendu Bay showground. The tournament was organised by Athletics Kenya and supported by Karachuonyo National Government Constituency Development Fund.
