•People under Inua Jamii programme to start benefit from Monday( today) in Homa Bay.
•The beneficiaries should carry their identity cards and relevant documents
Elderly persons, orphans and people with disabilities in Homa Bay will today start receiving their Inua Jamii payouts after the government released Sh368.7 million.
A total of 30,726 people with special needs are enrolled in the national government programme. The elders are 20,780, orphans, 9,302 and people with disabilities 644.
County coordinator for children services Peter Kutere on Friday told journalists in Homa Bay town that they will begin paying each beneficiary Sh12,000 for the three cycles of the last six months. The cycles are September-October, November-December and January-February.
“We’re starting to pay the beneficiaries on Monday (today). The government wants to compensate and recover the past three cycles it did not pay,” Kutere said.
The beneficiaries should visit the banks through which the government is channelling the payments. The banks are Cooperative, Equity, KCB and Post Bank.
Kutere asked those who will not be paid today to be patient.
The beneficiaries should carry their identity cards and relevant documents. Kutere urged them to ensure they are accompanied by trusted caregivers to withdraw the cash.
“The banks have been instructed not to charge withdrawal fees, hence beneficiaries should take the chance and save money in their accounts,” he said.
The release of the funds comes at a time when the elderly persons have been pleading for government assistance.
One of them, 76-year-old Olela Siso, said that the delayed payment was causing frustrations. “We don’t have any source of income,” Siso said.
