Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nyanza delegates have backed Former Youth Enterprise Development Fund head Evans Gor Semelang’o has been backed for president of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nyanza delegates.

More than 66 delegates said on Wednesday that Semelang’o will address trade problems in the region and campaign for him.

Semelang’o is facing Nairobi chapter chairman Richard Ngatia in the KNCCI race.

Migori chapter Chairperson Samuel Rumo said, "Nyanza has been lagging behind in business and Semelang’o has promised to inject new blood into the industry. We are optimistic he will achieve this."

Semelang’o said he will be riding on his regional and international exposure in business to succeed the former holder of the position, Kiprono Kittony.

He said he understands the problems entrepreneurs face and will ensure chamber leaders countrywide build their capacity and leadership. He said he would arrange trade missions.

Semelang'o promised to lobby for creation of a tax regime that avoids double-taxation.

He also said he will ensure revenue is generated by certificates of origin issued by the chamber of commerce.

“I will push to ensure chamber officials accompany governors in business ventures as is the case at the national level.
