The Kisii county government will build a Sh2 billion 55-bed cancer centre, Governor James Ongwae has said.

Tenders for the facility have been opened and the groundbreaking will take place in November.

The government is also planning to set up a specialist hospital for mothers and children at a cost of Sh150 million.

The hospital will help decongest health facilities across the county, Ongwae said. “My administration prioritises the health of women and children.” He spoke at Nyamache stadium in Bobasi subcounty on Thursday during graduation of 85 community health workers. Ongwaesaid his administration will support them to promote preventive health.
