KAUTI Academy topped Kajiado county in the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam, with a mean score of 398.65.
Hillary Ouko, 13, scored 446 marks out of the possible 500 and emerged the best student in the county.
Acacia Crest Academy in Kitengela took the county’s second position with a mean score of 398.
Two pupils, Serphine Okeyo and Sarah Wangare, took the lead with 441 marks each.
Thorn Grove Academy in Isinya subcounty was third, with a mean score of 383 marks, while Muthenya Academy came fourth with 382.
They were followed by Milimani Academy (381), Jesus Hobbs Academy (371) and St Monica Academy (364).
Enkasiti Primary School topped public schools, with a mean score of 296.7 and was followed by Enkirrigirri Primary School, with a mean score of 296.37.
Ouko expressed joy, saying he is excited and hopes to join Alliance High School.
He wants to become an aeronautical engineer in the future.
Kauti Academy director Jacob Kioko congratulated Ouko, saying his achievement was not luck, but sheer hard work and support from teachers and his parents.
Nine pupils out of the school’s 20 candidates scored 400 marks and above, with the lowest getting 353.
Teachers and parents in the county praised the government for introducing a new selection criteria for students joining form one.
They said it is fair and no longer favour students in public schools.
Late last year, the Education ministry said five top standard eight candidates from each subcounty, whether from public or private schools, will get automatic admission to national schools.
This is part of new guidelines on form one admission launched by the ministry in October last year.
