FARMERS should adopt greenhouse technology to enhance food production, Kisii Governor James Ongwae has said.
Launching a Greenhouse Training Centre during a field day in Kisii town on Wednesday, he said diminishing land sizes call for new ways to produce food.
“We want farmers to embrace the technology to increase their income through agri-business,” Ongwae said.
Also present were Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Agriculture executive Vincent Sagwe and various experts.
Ongwae said the government will establish a greenhouse in each of the 45 wards and train farmers on how to use them.
The governor said due to arising population, the technology will go a long way in curbing food insecurity.
Ongwae told Sagwe to help farmers’ get loans from financial institutions to expand their business.
“Farmers cannot know where they can access loans unless they are well informed,” he said.
Ongwae said all farmers should plant tissue culture bananas because they are quick maturing.
