Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and Ugunja’s Opiyo Wandayi nearly came to blows during a harambee in Ugunja, Siaya county, on Friday.

Midiwo accused Wandayi of contributing to Raila Odinga’s defeat in the March 4, 2013 general election.

“Wandayi, your votes cannot fill a basket. You only managed to give us 36,000 votes in the last elections,” Midiwo said.

Ugunja has 120,000 registered voters.

Wandayi stood up and threatened to beat up Midiwo, saying he cannot insult him in his territory.

Wandayi was the master of ceremonies during the harambee at Simero Mixed Secondary School.

Ugenya MP Dave Ochieng held Wandayi back.

The debate was sparked off by Ochieng, who said legislators must ensure constituents register as voters ahead of the 2017 elections.

Earlier, Midiwo had threatened to beat up self-proclaimed Okoa Kenya Western director Augustine Makamu.

Makamu had accused Midiwo of antagonising Wandayi for supporting Governor Cornel Rasanga.
