KISUMU’s suspended majority leader Samuel Ong’ow will face assault charges after he allegedly attacked two police officers.
He is accused of assaulting AP officer Kenneth Odongo and his colleague on Monday when they went to arrest him at his home in Awasi, Nyando subcounty.
Prosecutor Lameck Sirtuy told the court yesterday that they plan to charge him once investigations are concluded.
Ong’ow is accused of mobilising a crowd to attack the officers, who were arresting him over graft claims.
Ong’ow was arraigned in court together with Kisumu speaker Anne Adul, minority leader Edwin Anayo, clerk Nelco Sagwe and Margaret Jobita on charges of embezzling Sh17.4 million, by single-sourcing a firm to organise MCAs’ overseas trips.
They were charged together with Samuel Odera and Mildred Omondi, directors of Factor Connect Company, on Tuesday.
They denied the charges and principal magistrate Thomas Obutu ordered them released on Sh2 million bond, except Ong’ow who was remanded for further investigation over intended additional charges.
The graft case will be mentioned on May 26.
