Garissa Governor Nathif Jama on Saturday urged members of the county assembly to expedite vetting of the county executive members so that they can embark on serving the residents in their respective roles.
Last week, Jama nominated 10 persons pursuant to Section 6 of the public appointment [county assembly approval] Act,2017.
They were Hassan Abdirizack Mohamed [Agriculture and livestock], Abaas Ismail Khaar [Finance and economic planning], Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim [water], Mohamed Suleiman Mohamed [trade and investment], Nasir Mohamed Aden [Roads ,Transport and public works], Mohamed Hussein Mohamed [lands Physical planning and urban development].
Others were Zahra Musa Aden [county affairs public service], Hawa Abdi Sahal [Education], Rahma Dubow [Culture Gender youth and sports], Ahmednadhir Omar [Health].
Notably, only Ahmednadhir who was in former Governor Ali Korane’s administration was retained by Jama.
He first served as the health executive before being transferred to the education docket later where he maintained a low profile.
Speaking during the close of the induction training for the MCAs, the governor called for a mutual and symbiotic relationship between the executive and the assembly in order to deliver as per the expectation of the people of Garissa.
“I want to encourage you to discharge your responsibilities with commitment, diligence and accountability. I have already forwarded the names to the house for vetting so that they can embark on delivering services,” he said.
Jama said the roles of the MCAs were very well defined in the constitution, adding that the induction course has greatly empowered them to perform their function better.
He reiterated on his commitment to ensure the County Government continues to provide services to residents of the county and implements development programmes including completion of flagship projects before the end of his term.
"My office will be keen on improving facilities and we factored this need in the budget proposals that will soon be tabled for discussion in the assembly,'' the governor said.
He also assured MCAs that development projects will be implemented at ward level based on priority needs.
On his part, Assembly speaker Abdi Idle Gure pledged to respect and uphold the rule of law and nurture the culture of constitutionalism within them and make all judgments in tandem with the house Standing Orders.
“I will be in the forefront in safeguarding the role of the assembly as an arm of the County Government. My appeal to you members is that let us resolve to do something different in the lifetime of this Third Assembly. I urge for cooperation from all and sundry,” he said.
