A man wanted for breaking into a hospital in Isiolo was arrested over the weekend after a dramatic confrontation with police.
Dida Doyo, 28, was shot and injured in the hand as he engaged police.
He is accused of breaking into a hospital and stealing property and cash.
Police said he was armed with an AK-47 rifle when he was confronted and arrested. The weapon had 22 bullets when it was recovered.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was attended to and later put under arrest.
Police said they are investigating if he has any other criminal links in the area.
The neighbouring Marsabit county is under curfew to facilitate an ongoing disarmament exercise.
This has partially affected Isiolo where some suspects are fleeing to for refuge.
Residents say the operation has exposed them to attacks from neighbouring gangs targeting their animals.
Over the weekend, 25 out of 57 goats that had been stolen from a village in Ngurunit location, Marsabit were traced to Samburu.
Elders handed them back to authorities there as part of efforts to restore peace and avoid counter attacks.
They also promised to look for the remaining animals and hand them back.
There is an ongoing operation to mop up illegal guns in Marsabit county.
The officers are drawn from specialised units including the General Service Unit, Anti Stock Theft Unit and Rapid Deployment Unit.
Officials said the operation will continue until at least 5,000 illegal guns are retrieved.
In June, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said although the multi-agency team deployed in May had restored peace in the county, the mop-up of illegal weapons must be concluded as a long term security strategy.
He said more than 200 guns, 3,000 ammunitions, a grenade and assorted bayonets have been recovered under Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit.
"We need to recover more guns. We will review this operation when we have around 3,000 guns because we believe there are still many more guns in wrong hands," Matiang’i said.
The CS said they will stay on this assignment until the region is peaceful.
“We have made assurances that we will not end the operation until after the general election.
"We want this place to be peaceful before, during and after the general election," he said.
