Eldas hospital to be upgraded to Level 4 status

The hospital will get a new maternity wing, female ward and a male ward block in the Sh140 million upgrade

The Eldas hospital is being upgraded to Level 4 at a cost of Sh140 million.

The three-month upgrade is being done by the Ministry of Health and Kenya Defence Forces. 

Eldas MP Aden Keynan said the upgrade will strengthen and boost the quality and reliability of healthcare services.

Keynan spoke on Tuesday during the handing over of a construction site at Eldas hHospital.

Upon completion, the hospital will have a new maternity wing, female ward and a male ward block.

Plans are also underway to construct a new radiology and laboratory block, as well as the installation of a 150KVA standby generator.

The facelift will also include renovation of two existing blocks, installation of medical gas storage and a reticulation for theatre.

New wards and a 40,000-litre overhead tank and ground storage will also be set up.

Keynan said they applaud the Jubilee government for setting out the plan, budgeting and laying a clear strategy to actualise and realise the project.

"I also wish to thank Wajir Governor, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud and the entire Wajir leadership for playing a special role in fast-tracking this important process,” he said.

Governor Abdi said the upgrade is in line with Universal Health Care and strengthening of access of services. 

He added that his administration will continue making huge investments in healthcare.

The investments include construction the Sh53 million new OPD block, MCH clinic, modern theatre, fencing and incinerator at the Eldas Hospital.

Resident Aden Ali said once complete, residents will not be forced to travel long distances in search of services.

The event was graced by a technical team from the Ministry of Health and Kenya Defence Forces office led by Colonel Momanyi.
