Eldas MP Aden Keynan on Tuesday urged parents in Northeastern to continue investing in their children's education.

Keynan said gone are the days when education was not taken seriously.

The MP spoke at a parents' day event at Eldas Secondary School.

Education officials, local leaders, parents and students attended the event where Keynan was the chief guest.

“Poverty and lack of teachers is a major challenge to the progress of our region. The only way to bridge the gap is by ensuring that we educate our children and continue urging them to prioritise teaching courses,” Keynan said.

Keynan said an investment in education always pays the highest returns.

He said an educated workforce is the foundation of every community and the future of every economy.

“I'm committed to enhancing the capacity of education institutions by elevating their status to competitively feature in the national academic space,” Keynan said.

The legislator said he believes in the transformative value of education in community development. He urged the people to walk the journey with him.

"Securing a better future for our children and guaranteeing more development opportunities for the community is our solemn and collective duty,” Keynan said.

He said the goal can only be achieved through concerted efforts and holistic working relationships with other stakeholders in the education sector.

He used the opportunity to rally residents behind the Azimio movement which has Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate.

The legislator said that it is the only side that will bring meaningful change not only to the region but the country at large.

He later handed over to the school administration a brand new 51-seater bus, commissioned a new dormitory and laid the foundation stone for the deputy principal's house, all financed by the NG-CDF.
