The Borana Council of Elders on Saturday endorsed Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali for a second term.
The elders and professionals from Marsabit,Isiolo and Tana River made the announcement at Sololo after a closed door meeting.
"We have given him our blessings to approach other communities residing in the county and lobby for support," said the elders.
"The resolution made today was after many engagements with politicians, opinion leaders and professionals," they said.
The elders through their chairman Galm Dabaso urged other aspirants who failed to show up at the forums to shelve their ambitions for the sake of the unity.
Three others leaders from the Borana community have also shown an interest in the governor seat.
However according to Dabaso, the three, Professor Wario Guyo, Commissioner Kelo Harsama and Tuqa Jirmo declined invitation to the council of elders forum saying they lacked trust in it.
The elders however left the MP and MCA seat open for the residents to decide.
Mohamud in his acceptance speech welcome the endorsement and promised to continue providing good leadership to the county.
"Community unity is paramount, let everyone accept the elders decision and focus on unity." he said.
The meeting was attended by a representative from 17 clans of the Borana.
Elder Doyo Galgalo promised to campaigned for the governor saying he is friendly and easy and to sell.
In Northern Kenya, political decisions are made by a locally constituted council of elders and in most cases their preferred candidate triumph at the ballot.
The elders are mandated to give political direction in ensuring stability by fairly distributing political positions as they are perceived to know the strength and weakness of each candidate.
The Boranas are the majority in the county which is home to 13 other tribes.
In 2017 general election, Borana took the governorship, Rendile got the senator, Burji's deputy governor and the women representative seat went to the Garri community.
