Garissa Water and Sewerage Company on Tuesday resumed drilling and piping of water to residents' homes after seven months.
Bulla ADC residents in Garissa expressed optimism that they will no longer have to go far in search of water.
“We have struggled to buy water from trucks because it is very expensive and you have to buy after every two days, but with this water supply, we will not have to go through that trouble,” Adar Abdile said.
“We have not had water for a very long time. People have had to walk for kilometres to get water,” Edwin Wekunda, an area resident said.
GAWASCO communication officer Omar Noor promised residents uninterrupted piped water into their homes.
He however urged them to timely pay their water bills as required for better services.
“We will make sure that every resident in this area will not lack water even if we will do the water rationing,” Noor said.
He decried the high level of defaulters among residents and termed it a challenge that has cost the company millions of shillings.
“It is good that everyone pays their water bills as per the tariffs. As we promise you uninterrupted water supply, we urge you to do your part and pay for this water,” he said
Addressing the press recently, GAWASCO managing director Yusuf Abdi regretted that the company has been losing over Sh60 million annually due to non-revenue water and illegal water connections in the county.
