Mandera has launched a community policing programme to boost security.
Residents will work together with security officers to tackle crime in the terror-prone border county.
County commissioner Kutswa Olaka on Thursday said the move is geared towards sharing of security information.
Some 102 community policing segments have been created from nine clusters — the nine Mandera town locations.
The clusters have been tasked to intensify the war on illicit drugs and violent extremism, and ensure 100 per cent primary to secondary school transition.
Terror attacks by al Shabaab have declined in recent times. Consequently, businesses have begun to boom. Unlike before when Mandera would be a ghost town by 6pm, traders can now operate until late into the night.
Last week, quarry workers welcomed Deputy President William Ruto’s pledeg to ensure the ban on quarries is lifted.
They said security has improved and loopholes previously exploited by militants sealed.
The quarries were closed in February last year following terror attacks that targeted miners. Many people were killed.
