Dadaab MP Mohamed Shidiye has urged the government not to withdraw KDF soldiers from Somalia.

Shidiye, whose constituency borders Somalia from the East, said withdrawing soldiers from Somalia will have a direct impact on security in the border towns.

Speaking in Liboi town on Monday, Shidiye said those calling for the withdrawal of KDF troops from Somalia were wrong.

“We need our soldiers in Somalia for not only our own security, but also that of Somalia. The advantages of them being there far much outweigh the disadvantages,” he said.

The MP, who was reacting to calls that have been made by many, especially after terror attacks, to have the troops withdrawn, called for the reinforcement of the military camps on the border and inside Somalia.

Al Shabaab militants attacked a KDF camp in Kulbiyow, Somalia,

on Friday morning. Unconfirmed reports say about 60 KDF soldiers were killed. While the government puts the figure at nine, al Shabaab claimed it killed 57 soldiers.
