Battle lines have been drawn between Governor Julius Malombe and Senator David Musila as they fight for Wiper's nomination certificate for Kitui governor. Both leaders and their supporters have spared no opportunity to tear into and discredit each other.

During the Madaraka Day fete in Kitui on Wednesday, Malombe dismissed Musila as an elderly leader who should hang his boots. Musila, addressing rallies in Kyuso and Tseikuru market in Mwingi North subcounty on Monday and Tuesday, said Malombe should prepare for a battle royale during party nominations.

“I will wedge a fierce campaign to win the Wiper nomination for the governor’s seat, but I know Malombe

is not

taking it lying down,” Musila said. Malombe has held meetings across the county, urging residents to re-elect him.
