Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has urged public and private universities to continuously improve their programmes.
He said Kenyan universities should produce creative and innovative global citizens, not mere jobseekers.
Kaimenyi was speaking during the Kenya Methodist University 15th graduation ceremony in Meru on Saturday.
Among the more than 3,000 graduands was Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Kaimenyi praised Kenya for being rated by the UN as the best nation worldwide in public services delivery.
“Kenya has also been rated as the third fastest growing country in the world. According to research by the British council, 64 per cent of our graduates want to be self-employed once they leave university,” he said.
Kaimenyi said integrity and respect for the law are fundamental in moving the country to greater heights.
Chief guest Deputy President Wililam Ruto urged universities to bring out the face of Kenya to foster national integration.
