City motorists have lauded the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for the construction of the Ngong Road-Lang’ata link road.

It now takes less than five minutes for one to drive from Lang’ata Road to Ngong road at Prestige Plaza.

Previously, motorists had to use Mbagathi road or Langata road via Nyayo/ Mbagathi roundabout which they ended up being caught in traffic.

Currently, the contractor tasked with constructing the road is doing the final touches.

The road is dubbed Ngong Road-Kibera-Kung’u Karumba-Lang’ata link road and cuts across Kibera slum.

The construction of the main dual carriageway, underpasses and overpasses are complete.

A spot check revealed that the contractor is finalizing the service roads, bus bays, pedestrian bridges, and footpaths.

The dual carriageway is yet to be marked.

In June, KURA said the new road will have an interchange at the Prestige plaza area to create a seamless connection.

"We have intensified infrastructural development in major towns in a bid to help transform lives. Urban roads are key enablers of economic growth and have productive interlinkages with other socio-economic activities such as industrial, services, agricultural, commercial, social institutions and households" KURA Director General Silas Kinoti said.

Motorist Amos Nyamu who lives in Langata said he is happy because he doesn’t need to use a long route to access Lavington, kileleshwa and Kilimanii estates.

He said the new road has helped cut down on fuel costs, travel time and he’s not worried about wasting time in heavy traffic.
