Two relatives of slain IEBC official Daniel Musyoka claim he could have been killed for refusing to take a bribe.

Musyoka’s brother-in-law Jackson Muimi and his elder sister Ann Mbolu said Musyoka was a “God-fearing man” and could have refused a bribe from his killers.

The two spoke to the Star on Wednesday in Loitokitok.

No one knows the motive for the torture-slaying, however, speculation swirls about.

A few days before the general election in 2017, IEBC tech guru Chris Msando was tortured and murdered. He had publicly claimed the system was foolproof. The murder is unsolved.

“We know who Musyoka is, he cannot be compromised. I suspect someone must have attempted to bribe him to change the numbers in the just-concluded election and he refused,” Muimi said.

Mbolu said Musyoka was the leader and provider of the family, despite being younger than her.

“He is the most honest person we have in the family. I am married in Machakos and Musyoka was also able to provide for my husband and I, whenever we were in need. He was such a kind person. He had no enemies,” she said.

Mbolu said her brother's body was still fresh when they saw it on Monday.

She says he could have been killed hours before they arrived in Loitokitok.

“We are praying to God to guide the family he left behind. He was the only breadwinner in the entire family,” Mbolu said.

Kajiado South police commander Kiprop Ruto said he suspects Musyoka might have been killed elsewhere, before his body was dumped two kilometres outside Loitokitok town.

“We have handed over this case to DCI and hope the killers will be brought to book soonest,” Ruto said.

Musyoka went missing on August 11. He was at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre when he disappeared at 9.45am.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said they had tried to reach him to no avail.

"Musyoka's family and the commission have been trying to reach him without success. A report of a missing person has been made at Embakasi police station," Chebukati said on Monday.
