Courtrooms at the Makadara Law Courts were Friday open for only an hour and a half in the morning then closed for fumigation.

Makadara chief magistrate Heston Nyaga said Thursday the activity to prevent the spread of the coronavirus would begin at 11am.

“All matters shall be mentioned in the respective courts from 9:00 a.m to 10:30 a.m when the court shall be closed to enable the exercise take place,” Nyaga said in a notice to court users.  

In March, Chief Justice David Maraga ordered a scale-down of court activities for two weeks to contain the coronavirus.  

He also suspended workshops, conferences and foreign travel has for justice officers except in very critical cases. 

Court sessions resumed last month with strict preventive measures observed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. 

On Thursday the Ministry of Health reported 421 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 11,673.

The new cases were from 3,895 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.
