Kangemi mum charged with burning son with hot knife

Granted Sh30,000 bail or Sh100,000 bond by Kibera magistrate, despite prosecution's request for remand

A 28-year-old woman from Kangemi, Nairobi, has been charged with burning her 12-year-old son with a hot knife. 

Egetey Natsa allegedly committed the offence at her house on Tuesday as punishment. She was charged with cruelty and causing bodily harm.

She was arrested after neighbours reported to police. The child was taken to a children's home in Kabete. Ludenya was taken to Kabete police station.

She denied wrongdoing before Kibera chief magistrate Joyce Gandani and pleaded for lenient bond terms. But the prosecution wanted her remanded pending a report from a children's officer.

The magistrate granted her Sh30,000 bail or Sh100,000 bond.

The magistrate ordered that the report by the children's officer be produced by the prosecution. 

The case will be heard on June 3.
