Kitui CEC for Agriculture, Stephen Kimwele, has decried the wanton degradation and vandalism of facilities at the Kitui Showground.
Kimwele said the vandalism would cost the county millions to rehabilitate.
He expressed the sentiments on Wednesday when he led the members of the committee tasked with reviving the showground on Wednesday.
The last Kitui show was held at the venue in 2017 but the event has reportedly not taken place since then.
However, Governor Julius Malombe pledged to revive the trade fair during his campaign for the seat.
The governor has since directed Kimwele to ensure that the showground is revived to hold a high-standard event this year.
Kimwele said plans to rejuvenate the grounds were in top gear and the event has been planned for July 26-29.
“We are going to have a world-class show this year,” he added.
“During our visit to the showground we have been confronted by ruined flood lights, vandalised lavatories that have no door and collapsed gates. We will, however, refurbish and reclaim its lost glory," the CEC said.
