- Governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached Wednesday after 67 MCAs out of 69 voted yes to the motion.
- Mworia said they want to collect enough signatures by the time the Senate holds a special sitting to decide Mwangaza's fate.
Meru residents have started collecting signatures to dissolve the county government.
The initiative is led by Gakii Mbui, who unsuccessfully vied for the Woman rep seat in the August polls, former Nkuene MCA Nick Mburugu and politician Kaborio Mworia.
On Thursday, the three said they have so far collected 90,000 signatures which they intend to forward to the Senate.
Governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached Wednesday after 67 MCAs out of 69 voted yes to the motion.
The Senate will hold a special sitting following the impeachment of the governor, who has been in office for just 112 days.
Mbui said residents of Meru have not been able to progress since the August polls because of the wrangles between the governor and MCAs.
"We have been waiting for the two sides to solve their differences but now their time has run out," Mbui said.
Mbui said they aim to collect enough signatures to satisfy the Senate. She said the move is after MCAs failed to show a willingness to reconcile with the governor.
She said most of the MCAs in the current assembly will be sent home.
"I am sure Mwangaza will sail through due to her popularity and leadership skills," Mbui said.
"We are not leaning to any political side this is our own initiative as residents."
Mworia said they want to collect enough signatures by the time the Senate holds a special sitting to decide Mwangaza's fate.
He said that the impeachment is politicised and does not focus on the developmental record of Mwangaza or her leadership skills.
