Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has sacked county revenue board manager John Ntoiti.

Kawira immediately promoted Francis Mungai as the general manager and Fridah Kagwiria as the director for efficient and effective service delivery.

Kawira has also appointed Nchamba Mbithi as the chief of staff and Mugambi Sandi as communication director and spokesperson.

Former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi, who was one of Kawira's competitors during the just concluded polls, had declared political war against her and termed her as a drama queen maintaining that she must pay taxes according to the law.

Kawira defeated Kiraitu with about 100,000 votes including in his home constituency, South Imenti.

“I have ordered the board to release all items that had been confiscated by the former regime to the owners with immediate effect. However, they must prove ownership of the items before they are released,” Kawira said.

She also waived collection of taxes after 4pm from small business people and Mama Mbogas within the county.

“No revenue officer should take money without receipts and business people are requested to ensure they ascertain the amount paid to the officers and the money that will be receipted. More so, no revenue should be collected after 4pm except at the roadblock barriers,” she said.

Kawira pledged to introduction suggestion boxes in all county offices for people to report all corruption cases they notice among the county staff.

The governor urged the revenue board to ensure leniency in revenue collected depending on the sizes of the businesses.

“I have extended registration period for suppliers of goods, services and works to September 30 to allow more business owners to apply for government tenders. The era where few businessmen and women benefited from government tenders is over, instead I will ensure diversity with special consideration to women, youth and people with disabilities,” Kawira said.
