5-year-old girl found dead in Mlolongo

Police in Mlolongo, Machakos County, have retrieved a minor's body from a thicket.

The officers led by Mlolongo police station OCS Jackim Kangangi removed the body of the 5-year-old girl from Sabaki stream in Green Valley estate on Thursday.

"The child is suspected to have been murdered elsewhere and dumped in the area," the source told the Star on Thursday.

The body was wrapped in a sack when the officers retrieved it.

Athi River East sub-county police commander Anderson Njagi said the unidentified body was moved to the City mortuary.

Njagi said preliminary investigations revealed the minor might have been murdered on or around August 16 and the body dumped inside the thicket.

"From preliminary physical assessment, the girl might have been killed between August 16th and 18th," Njagi said.

He said it was an isolated incident.

"The unidentified minor was killed and dumped at the scene where it was retrieved by our officers from Mlolongo police station. The scene is an isolated area along Kasina river," Njagi said.

Njagi spoke to the Star at Mlolongo police station on Thursday.

He said the body was discovered by members of the public who informed police officers leading to the retrieval.

Njagi said there was no missing child report in any of the police stations around.

"We are appealing to anyone with a report of a missing child to contact us," Njagi said.

He said DCI sleuths from the homicide department had launched a probe into the incident to unravel the identity and circumstances surrounding the girl's death.
