Police in Meru have arrested two people alleged to have kidnapped aides of Tigania East MP Gichunge Kabeabea.

The two suspects were arrested at Muriri market in Tigania East after their vehicle was intercepted by police.

Police were forced to shoot at the Subaru Forester car, injuring the two suspects.

Area police boss Peter Karanja said they are investigating the abduction allegation, reported on Tuesday.

The aides were allegedly dumped somewhere else in the constituency.

Karanja said the aides said to have been kidnapped, were allied to Kabeabea.

They were dumped at Matabithi area along Meru-Isiolo border.

This is about 45 kilometres from Kiguchwa polling station where they are said to have been abducted.

“Yes we have arrested two suspects - the driver and one occupant of the vehicle, and they are helping us with investigations. The two victims are also helping us with investigations,” Karanja said.

Police had a hard time calming the irate residents, who were baying for the blood of the occupants of the vehicle on Wednesday. The mob also attempted to torch the car but was stopped by police.

Lawrence Mutwiri, a personal assistant to MP Kabeabea, claimed the seized vehicle belongs to EALA MP Mpuru Aburi, who is also seeking the Tigania East parliamentary seat.

Aburi confirmed he was the owner of the vehicle and said police shot innocent residents.

"They were not armed why were they shot at? If there were allegations, they should have been arrested without exchange of fire. They almost killed innocent youths," Aburi said.

He said he was headed for victory and his competitor is seeking sympathy by making up the story.

He also denied being behind the torching of a vehicle belonging to incumbent MP Kabeabea on Sunday.

The Sh3 million vehicle was torched on Saturday night.
