MP Mwangaza to vie for Meru governor as independent

Says it is good to be in a party but the disadvantages outweigh the advantages

Meru Woman Representative Kawira Mwangaza is the first Meru gubernatorial candidate to unveil her manifesto.

The aspirant, who unveiled he manifesto last weekend, said she won’t be cowed by any forces in her bid to become the first woman governor of Meru.

She will vie as an independent against Governor Kiraitu Murungi of Mbus Party and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi of UDA.

The Meru woman representative clinched her seat as an independent in the 2017 general election after alleging that the Jubilee Party rigged her out during nominations.

She said it is good to be in a party but the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

“Our governor has a powerful party with zero developments. Development is an individual duty,” Mwangaza said.

The aspirant has picked Mutuma Isaac, a Methodist minister serving in Nyambene Synod to deputise her.

Mutuma, the son of former Njuri Ncheke council of elders chairman Paul M’Ethinkia was a prison inspector before resigning to join politics last year.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who was present at the unveiling said Mwangaza pays all her attention on development in Meru.

Muturi, who has declared interest in the presidency rallied behind Mwangaza saying she will be a great servant to the people.

“I plead with my friend Mwangaza to help me get votes in Meru. I came here because I believe she can make it. I will give you all the support I can mount,” he said.

Mwangaza's manifesto majors on water provision, education, agriculture, establishment of a Sh100 million annual ward-fund and equipping all subcounties with enough staff and funds.

Also motivating health staff and stocking of health facilities with equipment and medicine in order to maintain healthy citizens for economic growth.

"I will supply reliable water to every homestead by rehabilitating and augmenting the more than 2,000 existing community and government water schemes. Also constructing new ones where there are clear gaps," she said.

Mwangaza said she will seek better markets for food and cash crops such as coffee, tea, macadamia and miraa through direct sales, exchange bodies and cooperatives.

She also said she will maintain and gravel all county roads and tarmac busy county roads that connect wards.

The aspirant further said she will identify, train and fund micro, small and medium enterprises.

She said she will also work with neighboring governors, national government and national cohesion and integration commission to maintain peace.
