Former Kitui senator David Musila has threatened to run as an independent candidate in his quest for Kitui governor.

Musila who recently rejoined the Wiper party led by Kalonzo Musyoka in preparation for a second stab at the seat said he will not fight for the ticket.

The former senator spoke on Saturday at Musila gardens in Mwingi town where he launched his manifesto.

Musila who also met opinion leaders drawn from all 40 wards said some members within the Wiper party ranks were frustrating his efforts to get a direct nomination.

"I respect the party leader but I’ve seen looming frustrations. This is despite my handshake with Kalonzo, which I believed meant all will go well," he said.

The aspirant said he will seek the governor seat as an independent if he doesn't get the party endorsement.

"Once bitten twice shy. I want to remind those planning to deny me the ticket that I don’t care. In as much as Wiper party ticket is good, God’s ticket is the best," he said.

The former senator said he has the support of residents and is confident of winning in August.

Musila is among the three key persons who participated in the formation of the Wiper party alongside former Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo senior.

In 2017, Musila sought to capture the seat as an independent after losing Wiper party nominations to then Governor Julius Malombe.

Both Musila and Malombe lost to Governor Charity Ngilu who ran on her Narc Party ticket.

Ngilu will also be seeking reelection.

The former senator however said he will eradicate corruption in Kitui and boost the education sector by ensuring that all ECDE teachers are employed permanently.

He also said he will construct mega dams to address water scarcity in Kitui and equip all health facilities with drugs.

Present at the event were Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna and a host of elected MCAs and aspirants.

Members of the clergy who were also present endorsed Musila's candidature and prayed for his win in August.
