•There are about 2895 duplicate national identity cards, 2500 death and birth certificates, 1000 driving licences.
•State Department for Public Service principal secretary says they will be opening on weekends to clear the backlog.
The government has asked Kenyans who applied for Huduma Namba to pick their cards from where they registered.
Public Service Principal Secretary Mary Kimonye on Monday said many cards were still lying uncollected across various Huduma Centres across the country.
She spoke after touring the Huduma Centre in Meru town.
There are about 2895 duplicate national identity cards, 2,500 death and birth certificates, 1000 driving licences and 40,000 Huduma Namba cards.
“Why are you coming to seek government services and then you disappear giving the government another task to look for you,” Kimonye said.
The PS said they will be opening on weekends to clear the backlog.
She said the rate at which Huduma Namba cards are uncollected is alarming all over the country.
The PS said those who have their Huduma cards in other places can report to the nearest Huduma centre where they want their cards delivered.
Kimonye said centres are now friendly to the elderly and they do not need to queue.
“We also have the National cancer institute desk at Huduma centre so that we can serve them, five end to end pension services where retirees can give their documents and pension will be paid in their bank accounts,” Kimonye said.
“They do not have to travel to Nairobi for their pension services.”
