Agriculture CS Peter Munya has said a new party being crafted by Governor Kiraitu Murungi will not help Meru people.

Munya said elected leaders should instead deliver on the developmental agenda that they were voted in to undertake.

The CS spoke on Monday in Kiagu ward, Central Imenti where he campaigned for Jubilee candidate Samson Kirimania in the upcoming Kiagu ward by-election.

Munya hit out at Kiraitu who has been rooting for a Mount Kenya East party, saying the governor has failed to deliver his pledges.

On Saturday, Kiraitu said Mugambi Imanyara who is the secretary-general for Restore and Build Kenya is working tirelessly to have the party-ready by end month.

Imanyara said they were working to rebrand a party that will be used to bargain on behalf of Mount Kenya East.

However, Munya said Kiraitu has failed as Meru governor and should be sent packing in 2022.

"He should not tell us about parties, creating new parties will not bring roads neither will it bring water. He has been governor for four years what has he done for Meru?," Munya said.

The CS said Meru does not need a new party as it is satisfied with the ones already there.

"A party is not like a calf that will give you milk. Meru's are already satisfied with Jubilee, PNU and other parties," Munya said.

During the campaign, Munya said PNU will not field an aspirant for the by-election.

Munya ally Mpuru Aburi's National Ordinary People Empowerment Union's candidate Mwenda Nchamba has already withdrawn his candidature to support the Jubilee candidate.

Munya said Meru is solidly behind Jubilee and those saying President Uhuru Kenyatta has failed to deliver are misguided.

He said for now, his focus is to vie for Meru governor in 2022.

"But if I get a national seat, I will be happy to receive it, nobody hates power," Munya said.

There has been talk that Munya might be considered as a running mate for ODM leader Raila Odinga.
