Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has said he will revamp and rebrand Reform and Build Kenya, a party he says Mt Kenya region will use to bargain at the national table.

He has been rooting for the formation of a party for Mt Kenya East, which he said will not support Mt Kenya West in next year's elections.

Kiraitu was behind National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's coronation as Mt Kenya spokesman. Although Muturi has said he will run for president in 2022, he has yet to pick a party.

Murungi said he has seen the formation of many parties and in two months' time, the rebranded RBK will be ready.

"It is only Raila Odinga who has been to more parties than me. I have the experience as far as political parties are concerned," he said. Murungi said he was one of the people who formed PNU that helped former President Mwai Kibaki clinch a second term.

He spoke at Kaguru, South Imenti constituency, where he commissioned water tanks to boost production in the county.

Murungi said the time was ripe for him to have his own party as the Jubilee experiment has failed.

"Kalonzo Musyoka was my classmate. He has a party. Musalia Mudavadi was Minister for Local Government, he has ANC party. William Ruto was minister for Higher Education when I was Minister for Energy. If they have their own parties, why not Kiraitu Murungi?" he said.

Murungi said Meru should be respected as a community as they respect others.

"We are not saying we are superior to them but they should not say they are superior to us. We want to be independent; we are not talking about President Uhuru Kenyatta's government. We are supporting it, although Jubilee is collapsing,"  he said.

He said Jubilee will be a very weak party in the 2022 polls."If you want to lose the election stand with Jubilee in 2022 and Kiraitu Murungi does not want to lose the elections," he said.

Kiraitu said they started well and the Jubilee flame was alight but now it is in the past.

"Jubilee is part of the past and we are looking ahead after Uhuru Kenyatta's exit how will we will take our share of the national cake," he said.

He urged Meru MCAs who were rooting for the Rebuild and Restore Kenya party to be patient as one year is a very long time in politics.

"By March next year, the political landscape could be very different from what you are seeing today, so it is good for us to study it as there are no permanent friends or enemies," he said.

The MCAs who accompanied Kiraitu included Mwirigi Karinga (Abogetha East), Dennis Kiogora (Abogetha West), Gabriel Chokera (Mikinduri) among others.

Kiogora said that the Jubilee experiment has failed and that is why many leaders like Mwangi Kiunjuri, Moses Kuria and Mwangi Wa Iria are forming their own parties.
