“In March this year, we made the commitment to support maternal health across the country and this cause brought us to Meru county this weekend.

"We have seen women walk long distances to receive the medical care they deserve, with some not even making it to a healthcare facility,” Karauri said.

SportPesa Foundation also distributed football kits at the nearby Ankamia facility.

Five months ago, SportPesa Foundation launched its maternal health support and to date, it has made donations to hospitals in five counties—Bomet, Nairobi, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi and Meru.

Other beneficiaries include Rironi Health Centre, Lunga Lunga Health Centre, Riruta Health Centre, Ndarawetta Dispensary and PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital.

The foundation supports communities in sports and education, maternal healthcare and ending poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects.
