Tangatanga MPs from Embu have said they support National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's presidential aspirations but asked him to join forces with Deputy President William Ruto.

Runyenjes MP Erick Muchangi and nominated colleague Cecily Mbarire said both Ruto and Muturi should run on a joint ticket.

They disagreed with local ODM officials who have dismissed Muturi's candidature. Embu ODM chairman Moses Wamuuru earlier this week said Muturi lacks presidential qualities.

But Mbarire and Muchangi said Wamuuru's remarks were in bad taste and disgraceful.

Muchangi said all Embu leaders should support Muturi to assure more development in the county.

“It is everyone’s dream to see Embu county have more leaders so that we can develop further. I have been in the government for four years now and I have learnt that if you have a representative during the cake sharing, you are assured of your share unlike those who don’t have a representative,” Muchangi said.

He was speaking at Kagaari Primary School grounds on Thursday during the inauguration of Lydia Muturi as West Runyenjes chief.

"ODM has had no good intentions for the people of Kenya and this is why you have seen the party losing its strategies since its leader Raila Odinga joined hands with Jubilee," Muchangi said.

Mbarire said she agrees with anyone supporting Muturi and criticised those who have expressed opposition to the Speaker's aspirations.

"As the Mt Kenya East MPs, we say that Justin Muturi is our heir and we support him 100 per cent on his presidential bid. Some of the notable leaders in the country are not best in development in their background and they always receive full support from their people. We should be first to support him and not first to criticise,” Mbarire said.

The leaders asked the Treasury to quickly disburse CDF fundsso students who are reopening schools next week can get bursaries.
