NO BRIBES

Machakos cops manning roadblocks warned against taking bribes

• "Our field officers we urge you to sensitize Kenyans until they understand that its no longer business as usual." he said.

Machakos county commissioner Frederick Ndunga has warned police officers manning roadblocks against accepting bribes to allow people in and out of the county.

Speaking in Machakos on Sunday, Ndunga said he will ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta's directives are obeyed.

The county was put under lockdown after President Uhuru Kenyatta imposed a cessation of movement in and out of five counties - which have been categorized under a single zone - including Machakos.

Others are Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru.

Ndunga directed that the officers should sensitize residents and ensure curfew hours are not violated.

"Our field officers we urge you to sensitize Kenyans until they understand that its no longer business as usual." he said.

The county boss added that enforcement will be implemented across all ranks in the county and warned traffic police officers that strict measures will be taken against those who will be found guilty.

"Let me say without any fear of contradiction; I will not hesitate to direct very strict disciplinary measures against officers found accepting bribes for we know some officers have that behaviour," noted Ndunga.

According to Ndunga all officers put in charge of bars, wines and spirits shops and the roadblocks should be responsible and act without supervision.

"We are tired of repeating one issue everyday to officers who are slowing our progress," he added.

He said the county has erected 10 roadblocks between the neighbouring counties and will be manned by a multi agency team to ensure no one enters or leaves Machakos.

"We will be watching you closely so let me not find you in trouble. If we shall find that you are the weak point in enforcement we shall ask you to be reassigned as we do the enforcement so that when this period is over we can consider whether you can come back," said Ndunga.

He added, "That is the message to our officers, chiefs and assistant chiefs and the Deputy county commissioners including the assistant county commissioners."

He also appealed to the county enforcement wing to join hands and work together without 'misbehaving'.
