Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has defended the appointment of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's son to the Tourism Regulatory Authority.

Kelvin Muasya was appointed by Tourism CS Najib Balala to join the authority on August 7. Some residents alleged patronage in the move.

But Makau said Muasya's selection was a big boost to the region. It is evidence the Jubilee government is determined to entrench inclusivity, he said.

The lawmaker urged leaders from the Lower Eastern region to back the government's development agenda instead of criticising everything.

“We as leaders of Ukambani should be at the forefront in backing the appointment of Kelvin Muasya to the Tourism Regulatory Authority since he is our son,” he said during the funeral for Joyce Makau, a cleric of the Salvation Army in Mwala.

The new role is an indication that the government recognises that the people from the region can contribute positively to the development of the country, he said.

Muasya is the CEO Athiani Holdings and MD of Cottage Holdings.

Muthetheni MCA Jeremiah Munguti called for a speedy release of county funds.

A stalemate in the Senate over a formula to share Sh316 billion allocated to the counties has stalled the disbursement of the funds.

Munguti said the Senate supremacy battles were hurting operations of county governments.

“We are now calling for an amendment to the law through the National Assembly that will seal such anomalies in the disbursement of county funds,” Munguti said.

Other MCAs who were present include Daniel Mbevi (Mlolongo) Robert Kisini (Athi River) and Margaret Mbithi (Wiper nominated). Mwala MP Vincent Musau also attended the funeral.
