The locust plague will persist in 17 counties unless Kenyans repent, according to a God’s Revelation Church pastor.
Kitui's Pastor Samuel Kinyungu said the infestation was a manifestation of God's wrath with the church.
The pastor told congregants during a church service on Sunday to seek God's forgiveness.
He backed his call with quotations from several biblical teachings on locust invasions, warning that a food shortage loomed due to the destruction of food crops and animal feed.
“The locust invasion signifies God’s wrath. What is required of Christians is to seek God's forgiveness,” Kinyungu said.
There is massive destruction of food crops in Mwingi following the invasion of the voracious insects last month.
The area borders Tana River and Tharaka Nithi counties, which have also been invaded by locusts.
The damage was already done by the time the government started spraying the insects.
