Two people were killed and another seriously injured after two lorries collided at the Emali-Loitoktok junction along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Wednesday morning.

Confirming the 4 am accident, Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Napeiyan said the driver and turnboy of the lorries died on the spot.

"The driver of one of the lorries sustained head and chest injuries and was rushed to Kilome Nursing Home for treatment," Napeiyan said.

He said the lorry which was headed to Nairobi from Mombasa was overtaking  on the wrong lane when the accident occurred.

The two trucks were extensively damaged in the accident and were towed to Emali Police Station.
