The government will soon review the organisational structure of the Ewaso Ngiro North Development Authority to improve efficiency.

EAC and Regional Development CS Adan Mohamed on Monday said the authority requires engineers and other professional staff to deliver its mandate.

Speaking at ENNDA headquarters in Isiolo during a tour, Adan noted that high-end equipment was lying idle at the authority due to lack of professionals.

He said the agency has not been able to deliver due to a myriad of challenges, including underfunding and lack of adequate professional and technical staff to ensure prudent utilisation of modern equipment.

“The authority is a custodian of one of only three rigs in the country that have the capacity to drill boreholes with a depth of up to 650 feet below the ground. But it has not been fully utilised for the benefit of Kenyans in the ten counties that Ewaso Ngiro North Development Authority serves,” the CS said.

The Ewaso Nyiro North Development Authority serves Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Laikipia, Meru, Turkana and Baringo counties.

It is tasked with the implementation of development projects, including drilling of boreholes, construction of dams and water pans and provision of storage tanks to local communities.

Adan said that with over 200 staff, there was need to relook the organisational structure of the workforce.

He said the authority has very few technical personnel like engineers who can adequately discharge its mandate. "A review will help identify and fill gaps in order to ensure that the authority delivers on its mandate to improve the livelihoods of local communities."

The CS was with Principal Secretary Margaret Mwakima, directors and staff of the regional development authority.
