A mob from Rukindu village in Tharaka Nithi county on Thursday night killed a 31-year-old man on suspicion he murdered his uncle.
Rukindu village elder John Mbae said the body of the suspect, identified as Martin Murimi, was found outside his homestead on Sunday morning with deep cuts to his head.
He said the suspect was lynched a week after his uncle was killed while on his way home from Chuka town.
Meru South subcounty police commander Joseph Kavoo confirmed the incident. He said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was a victim of mob justice from people who suspected him to have been involved in the murder.
His uncle was buried on Thursday.
Kavoo said an investigation will be carried out to ensure justice is done. The body is at the Chuka Hospital mortuary.
