Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has ignored commenting on issues of development in the county to allow his successor Charity Ngilu deliver on her promises.

Malombe on Saturday said he has often been put under pressure to comment on how the county is fairing.

“But I have decided to avoid the issue to give those who succeeded me time to deliver development to the people,” Malombe said.

He was speaking during the burial of former Kitui Meandeleo ya Wanawake chairman, Eunice Kyambi Mutia, at Kalitini village in Kitui East.

Present were former Kitui Senator David Musila, former Kitui Central MP Joe Mutambu and Kitui assembly minority leader Alex Nganga.

“We have given them time for up to two and half years to work. In the third year, we will evaluate their development performance and give a scorecard. If they will have performed, we will congratulate them. If they will have failed, we will condemn them,” Malombe said.

The former governor said he was proud he initiated projects that people could see. He cited renowned academician Prof. Kiteme Kamuti who had previously said Malombe’s administration had many visible projects across the county.

He challenged residents to use their senses of hearing, sight and brain power in making future political decisions.

Mutambu said it was prudent for those who lost in the 2017 General Election to grant those elected time to serve. "If they underperforme or indulged in pilferage of public funds, then they will face the wrath of the electorate," Mutambu said.

Nganga said contractors grading roads in Mui ward were doing substandard work. “The road I have used to get here is shoddily done. It is not up to the standards recommended by the governor. It needs to be redone,” he said.
