Kipsigis elders apologise to Ruto over Bomet, Kericho heckling incidents

Myoot Kipsigis Council of Elders Monday apologised to President William Ruto over incidents where elected leaders were heckled at events in Bomet and Kericho counties.

Myoot chairman Richard Ngeno, on behalf of the Kipsigis community, apologised to President Ruto and requested forgiveness.

Chairman Ng'eno also requested the release of those arrested over the heckling incidents.

Ngeno issued the apology after a meeting with local leaders.

Those in attendance included Senator Aron Cheruiyot, Kericho governor Dr Eric Mutai, and members of the National Assembly Hillary Koskei and Joseph Cherorot.

A joint meeting between the council and church leaders is going to plan a visit to the president where the group will present their apology to the head of state.

ACK Kericho Diocese Bishop Arnest Ngeno said they prayed for elected leaders adding that they will ensure heckling at events come to an end.

"Elected leaders are God-given. As a church we cannot sit back and watch elected leaders being humiliated and heckled by some misadvised youths," he said.

The president had visited Kericho county to launch the affordable housing program during which a group of people believed to have been hired heckled area Governor Eric Mutai.

A similar heckling happened in Bomet where Governor Hillary Barchok had a hard time addressing a gathering at an event graced by President Ruto.
