Taita Taveta will now use a centralised data system to manage all water projects and improve service delivery in the department.

Governor Andrew Mwadime said on Wednesday the Taita Taveta Water Point Data and Information System is key to ensuring access to clean water for all residents.

The digital platform will help in mapping the 931 water points across the county.

While launching the system in Voi, Mwadime said the digital infrastructure will play a central role in attracting investors to complete stalled water projects and initiate new ones.

“This initiative is a collaborative effort between the county government and USAID-Stawi. It is part of measures we are putting in place to streamline services,” he told journalists.

"This system will prevent the duplication of efforts by investors. It is a significant step towards fulfilling our manifesto of ensuring water availability for all."

Mwadime underscored his commitment in ensuring access to clean water in areas facing scarcity.

USAID-Stawi chief of party Robert Kisyula said the new system will provide detailed information on water projects to aid management and decision-making.

"We now have a comprehensive understanding of the names, projects and their statuses. This information is crucial for effective project management and decision-making," he said.

Such information, Kisyula said, is a significant milestone to enhancing water governance.

"By harnessing the power of data, we can make informed decisions, allocate resources effectively and ensure equitable access to clean water for residents," he said.
