Taita Taveta leaders have pledged to work together with other stakeholders to spur development in the region.

In a show of unity, the leaders on Monday met with investors and promised to woo more development partners to the county.

The meeting convened by Governor Andrew Mwadime and his deputy Christine Saru Kilalo brought together all county leaders,  former elected leaders, MCAs and county commissioner Lyford Kibaara.

Mwadime said the meeting was meant to create synergy among different players and forge a way forward for sustainable development.

“This is a big step towards achieving change for the people of Taita Taveta. We are ready to co-operate with all arms of government and investors,” he said.

Elected leaders in the meeting included Senator-elect Jones Mwaruma, MPs-elect Abdi Chome (Voi), Peter Shake (Mwatate) and Taveta’s Bwire Okano among others.

The county boss said he is keen on instilling a culture of servant leadership, unity and accountability.

“Every leader must be accountable and ready to serve the people. Our joint venture is very important in addressing issues bedeviling our county,” Mwadime said.

Mwaruma said the leaders agreed to forge a common working formula that would ensure a steady development and economic growth of the region.

“In a bid to consolidate ourselves as leaders of this county after vigorous campaigns we met to streamline the issues that have pulled us back as a county,” Mwaruma said.

Mwaruma said the devolved unit will need more private investors to set up industries that would create jobs for tens of unemployed people.

He further encouraged leaders to help the county government reach out to more development partners to set up many development projects.

“There are many areas that the county can collaborate with development partners to make the region better. Such collaborations will, however, need good teamwork,” he said.

The county is keen on taking advantage of the county’s potential in agriculture and mining to persuade more investors to show interest in investing in the region.
