Retired Major Dhadho Godhana has retained his seat as Tana River Governor After beating former Governor Hussein Dado and Dr Nuhu Nassir in a highly competitive race.
The results were announced by Tana River County Returning Officer Yona Ogalo amid high tension as candidates and supporters of the different candidates waited anxiously to know the verdict.
The gubernatorial race was neck and neck with Godhana winning by 349 votes
Godhana of ODM garnered 26,982 votes while Dado of UDA got 26,633 followed closely by Nuhu Nassir of UPIA who bagged 24101 votes.
Security was tight at the Mau Mau girl's high school which was the County tallying centre in Hola town.
Immediately after the results were announced supporters of the incumbent who is serving his second and last term in office took to the streets to celebrate.
Already indications show that Azimio la Umoja one Kenya has won most of the seats in the area with ODM getting the majority of seats.
Notably, Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has bounced back to power after 10 years in the cold after clinching the Tana River senatorial seat.
Mungatana of UDA received overwhelming support from almost all communities particularly those allied to his Gubernatorial candidate Dado.
Mungatana beat the immediate former Senator Juma Wario, Hassan Dukicha, a former Galole MP, among other contestants.
In the Parliamentary race, two ODM MPs have been re-elected to office.
Ali Wario Guyo retained his Garsen MP seat on the ODM party ticket. He broke the one-term jinx that has bedevilled his predecessors.
Garsen Returning Officer Khadija Mohamed declared him the winner with 12,825 votes against his closest competitor Bashora who got 7,646.
In Galole Constituency, Said Hiribae, alias Said Posta, also retained his seat with 15,107 votes followed by Hargamso Fara of ANC with 7902 votes, Mbwanaidi Abdala with 4,425.
The Galole UDA parliamentary candidate Mohamed Buya emerged fourth with 1091 votes while Shuvi Ahmed of the INP party garnered 130 votes.
The Gubernatorial race attracted 13 candidates including Annania Larhayu Deye, Adam Barissa, Athman Kofa, Omar Kofa, Hassan Morowa, Michael Nkaduda, Swaleh Odha, Salim Batuyu, Ali Wario and Suleiman Buko.
